Argentinos Juniors are now seven matches without a win and will be rueing their inability to defend a lead having been two in front against Gimnasia in El Bosque. A first half brace from Reinaldo Lenis, the second being an absolutely superb effort, had put Los Bichos firmly in control and even when Rodrigo Contreras pulled one back, defeat looked unlikely. With five minutes remaining Oliver Benítez headed an equaliser and Néstor Gorosito’s side fell apart. Antonio Medina and Ezequiel Bonifacio both added goals with minutes remaining to maintain El Lobo’s fine form.
Vélez will also feel that they threw away points after twice allowing a lead to slip at home to Atlético Rafaela. Matías Pérez Acuña provided the perfect start when he fired El Fortín into a third minute lead but some sloppy defending allowed Franco Jominy to level the scores in first half stoppage time. Yamil Asad restored the lead but Osmar Ferreyra salvaged a point with a left-footed strike from distance. The 2-2 scoreline perhaps masks what was in reality a pretty drab affair between two quite poor sides.
In Rosario, Newell’s Old Boy’s struggles continued after a goalless draw with Temperley, their third game without a goal. Maxi Rodríguez had the best opportunity when Fernando Rapallini incorrectly awarded a penalty for a foul outside the box, but justice was restored when the former Argentina international saw his effort saved.
