Boca are still not exactly in full swing but Carlos Tevez helped Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s title challengers to a 2-0 win over Godoy Cruz in La Bombonera with a goal and an assist. In a very open start of the match it was the visitors that created the clearer chances and with Guillermo Sara in the Boca goal looking particularly shakey La Tomba needed to make their pressure count. Inevitably after wasting these opportunities, Boca took the lead when Carlos Tevez swung over a dangerous free-kick and Marcelo Meli dived to head the ball past Rodrigo Rey and into the top corner. Gabriel Heinze’s side continued to pose a threat after the break but when Cristián Erbes was tripped in the penalty area it presented Carlos Tevez with the chance to give Boca some breathing space. The iconic striker sent Rey the wrong way for his second league goal of the season and Boca went level with San Lorenzo at the top of the table.

Earlier in Victoria, Tigre returned to winning ways with victory over Unión thanks to a quick start which saw them race into a two-goal lead. Carlos Luna’s bullet header after just six minutes gave the home side the lead and shortly after Facundo Sánchez tapped in a second. Unión rallied and pulled one back just before half time when Víctor Malcorra fired a penalty past Sebastían D’Angelo but were unable to find an equaliser.

Boca Juniors  2 – 0  Godoy Cruz

Tigre  2 – 1  Unión
