Lanús managed to end their run of four matches with a win in the Primera but needed a somewhat soft penalty to see off a resurgent Nueva Chicago side. Chicago had waited twenty matches to record their first win of the season but arrived in La Forteleza on the crest of back-to-back victories and for much of Monday night’s match they frustrated their hosts. After a goalless first half, Lanús took the lead just eight minutes when Nicolás Sainz was adjudged to have pulled back Sergio González with the striker trying to reach an overhit cross from the left. Nicolás Aguirre made no mistake in thrashing the ball past Nicolás Tauber and it proved to be decisive for Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side.

Earlier in Córdoba, Belgrano missed the chance to remain with River and Racing in the group just below the title contenders after a goalless draw with Olimpo. It was the visitors that came closest after just five minutes when Jonathan Blanco lobbed Juan Carlos Olave from distance only to see his effort come back off the crossbar. Belgrano as expected applied most of the pressure but were unable to find a goal and with the point they remain in sixth.

Lanús  1 – 0  Nueva Chicago

Belgrano  0 – 0  Olimpo
