Things at Newell’s could get a whole lot worse before they get better with next weekend’s clásico Rosarino coming at an awful time for Lucas Bernardi’s side. Another limp performance on Saturday evening was punished late in the game when Walter Busse fired Defensa y Justicia to a 1-0 win and it leaves Newell’s now seven without a win. All the optimism of Bernardi’s first game in charge when La Lepra swept aside Racing in July is now gone and they will go into the clásico as significant underdogs. Central claiming a fifth consecutive clásico could just push Newell’s to the limit and may even see Bernardi’s short spell in charge end.
In Parque Patricios, Huracán salvaged a point with an injury time Ramón Ábila goal against Independiente. The visitors led when Juan Martín Lucero slotted past Marcos Díaz and appeared as though they would hold on for a valuable three points only for Ábila to smash in a last minute equaliser. An eleventh draw of the season for El Rojo has them remain in sixth but Mauricio Pellegrino will know that this was another two points dropped.
Temperley’s decent run of form continued after they came from behind to defeat Belgrano in the Estadio Alfredo Beranger. Mauro Óbolo tapped the visitors in front during the first half with Ricardo Zielinski’s side still with much to play for if they are to finish in the Copa Libertadores places. However, Temperley have discovered a new sense of resolve and were level before the break when Ignacio Boggino smashed in a loose ball after Juan Carlos Olave had spilled a shot. Fernando Brandan’s powerful diving header put the home side in front and despite seeing Gabriel Esparza harshly sent off for a perceived dive, Temperley held on for the win.
