The previous two league champions, River Plate and Racing both secured victories on Sunday afternoon that maintain their hopes of lifting the Torneo 2015. River had no problems in sweeping aside lowly Nueva Chicago in Mataderos, thanks in large part to the almost unplayable performance of Lucas Alario. The young centre-forward plundered a hat-trick to give Marcelo Gallardo’s side a first league win since becoming Copa Libertadores champions and a slim chance to still claim the title. Racing may have left their charge too late but appear to have hit form at just the right time. Diego Cocca’s side still believe they can become bicampeones and their impressive performance against Gimnasia in El Cilindro attests to that. Gustavo Bou and a second half own goal gave La Academia a deserved win but they will need to be almost perfect if they are to surpass their rivals.

Nueva Chicago  1 – 4  River Plate

Racing Club  2 – 0  Gimnasia
