The inflated 30-team Primera just about manages to mask how poor Vélez Sarsfield have been this season but another defeat on Sunday has left Miguel Ángel Russo’s side down in 20th. In San Juan, San Martín made light work of Vélez’s inexperienced side and ran out 3-1 winners. An unfortunate Nicolás Tripichio own goal set the wheels in motion and Marcos Figueroa fired his seventh goal of the season just before the break to provide some breathing room. A superb strike into the top corner from 17-year-old Nicolás Delgadillo pulled one back for Vélez but Leandro Martínez wrapped up the points for the home side with a little over five minutes remaining.
In Bahía Blanca, Unión ended a run of three straight defeats against an Olimpo side that have now not found the net in four matches but have managed to draw three of those 0-0.
