Facundo Sava has remarkably transformed Quilmes into the Primera División’s form team and on Monday evening in Santa Fe, Los Cerveceros extended their unbeaten run to six matches, recording their fifth victory over that period. Atlético Rafaela provided a stern test and played their part in an exciting second half which yielded five goals but could not halt the momentum of Sava’s Quilmes.

Claudio Bieler gave Quilmes a scrappy early lead but it wasn’t until close to the hour mark that the match really came to life. Alexis Canelo finished off a wonderful team move to double the lead but Lucas Kruspzky pulled a goal back almost immediately when he thrashed in a loose ball. However, even quicker than La Crema had narrowed the lead, Canelo restored it with a well-placed long range effort and Bieler soon put the result beyond doubt from the penalty spot. Gabriel Morales managed to reduce the deficit but could not prevent Quilmes celebrating another excellent three points.

Later in La Plata, Estudiantes benefitted from a huge slice of luck to see off Aldosivi after a deflection off Roger Martínez handed Gabi Milito’s side victory. El Pincha had gone ahead after 27 minutes when Lucas Rodríguez tapped in from close range but the lead did not last long and Martínez headed the visitors level. However, his joy was relatively short-lived as he attempted to cut out Leonardo Jara’s right wing cross and instead diverted the ball from an acute angle into his own net. The own-goal proved to be the difference and Estudiantes maintained a five-match unbeaten run ahead of the clásico.

Atlético Rafaela  2 – 4  Quilmes

Estudiantes  2 – 1  Aldosivi
