Amid the dreadful playing conditions and sodden surface, Lanús celebrated a hard-fought victory over Vélez Sarsfield in Sarandí to take their place in the 2015 Copa Argentina semi-finals. Sergio González had given Lanús a first half lead when he rounded off a brisk counter but with a pitch suffering from the effects of hours of continual rainfall it was difficult for both sides to play much attractive football. Vélez pressed for an equaliser after the break and went more direct with Milton Caraglio providing a useful outlet and with minutes remaining they found a way through. Caraglio flicked the ball into the penalty area and Diego Braghieri somewhat unaware of his surrounding swung a boot to clear the ball, inadvertantly kicking Fabián Cubero in the process. Federico Beligoy pointed to the spot and Caraglio ensured that the tie went to penalties despite the ire of the Barros Schelotto twins. Fernando Monetti proved to be the difference as he saved twice to allow Braghieri to thump in the winning penalty for El Granate. Boca Juniors or Defensa y Justicia await in the semi-final.
