Banfield are still showing no signs of missing departed manager, Matías Almeyda and on Sunday afternoon extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a fifth victory. In the process of dishing out Crucero del Norte’s 13th straight away defeat, El Taladro scored what a contender for goal of the season and almost certainly the best team effort. Mauricio Cuero had already tapped the home side into a two-minute lead when the flowing, one-touch move swept through Crucero’s side and left Giovanni Simeone to skip around Horacio Ramírez for the outstanding second in the 22nd minute. Banfield looked rampant but were unable to kill the game off so when Pablo Stupiski headed a late goal for the vistors it created a more nervy final five minutes than it should have been. However, Claudio Vivas’ fine start as boss continued and Banfield climbed up to the lofty position of sixth.
Olimpo’s visit to Arsenal is not a fixture that would normally catch the eye but Sunday’s meeting was significant for the return of visiting supporters. The few that made the journey from Bahía Blanca were given reason to cheer early on when Jonathan Blanco gave them the lead from the penalty spot but they were soon pegged back. Sergio Pezzotta awarded the home side a penalty after some holding at a corner and Santiago Tréllez made no mistake in levelling the match. Arsenal sealed all three points before half time thanks to Federico Rasic’s fierce strike that left Ezequiel Viola no chance in the Olimpo goal.
Unión ended their run of five without a win with a 2-1 victory against ten-man Temperley in Santa Fe. Claudio Riaño volleyed the home side in front and when the visitors had Gastón Bojanich sent off before the half hour mark, few would have bet against Unión. However, a couple of minutes after half-time, Javier Grbec hauled the visitors level only for Emmanuel Britos to reestablish the lead shortly after. Unión held on for a morale boosting victory as both sides enjoy the relative comfort of mid-table.
