A four point lead at the top of the Primera with four rounds to play, Boca Juniors now have the title to lose. In-form Banfield were the visitors to La Bombonera but were unable to contain the Carlos Tevez led Boca side. Full-back Gino Peruzzi burst forward to volley Boca in front after just three minutes and Jonathan Calleri and Carlos Tevez added goals after half time to ensure a crucial three points.
Lanús and their visitors, Independiente both had midweek Copa Sudamericana ties on their minds when they met on Sunday night. Jorge Figal’s unfortunate own-goal provided the home side with a first half lead but Juan Martín Lucero headed an equaliser after the break.
In San Juan, Sarmiento picked up back-to-back wins with a 1-0 victory against San Martín. Gervasio Nuñez tapped in the only goal of the game with a little over ten minutes remaining.
