Facundo Sava could not have imagined that life as Quilmes manager would have been so simple when he took over a side that had won only four times in seventeen matches. However, on Friday evening, Sava oversaw an eighth victory in ten and is yet to taste the bitterness of defeat after a 2-0 result against San Martín. Rodrigo ‘Droopy’ Gómez thumped Los Cerveceros into a scrappy first half lead and after the visitors were reduced to ten men it was left to the in-form Claudio Bieler to volley his twelfth of the season. Quilmes moved up to eleventh in the table, only three points adrift of sixth and the final playoff spot, and although that maybe a step too far, it has been a remarkable second half to the season.

Belgrano are still very much dreaming of those Libertadores playoffs after a narrow 1-0 victory in Córdoba against Defensa y Justicia. Lucas Parodi’s diving header just before half-time proved decisive and although the home side needed to play virtually the entire second half after Pier Barrios’ red card, they held on for all three points. The result leaves Belgrano up in fifth, at least for the time being, and Ricardo Zielinski will be pleased to see his side earn back-to-back victories for the first time since July.

Belgrano  1 – 0  Defensa y Justicia

Quilmes  2 – 0  San Martín
