Argentinos Juniors haven’t enjoyed the best run of form since the restart of the league in July but on Saturday afternoon in La Paternal, Los Bichos enjoyed a surprising 2-1 win against Tigre. Lautaro Rinaldi thumped in the opener at the second attempt and although Martín Galmarini equalised shortly after half-time, Reinaldo Lenis’ deflected effort won all three points for the home side.
Estudiantes moved to within touching distance of the Copa Libertadores playoffs spots with a win against Sarmiento in Junín. Tiny Luciano Acosta’s second half penalty was the difference and puts Gabi Milito’s side level on points with River and Independiente before the two sides meet on Sunday night.
Gimnasia’s real slump in form continued in La Plata as they allowed Olimpo to equalise twice and leave El Bosque with a point. Two goals at the start of each half from Osvaldo Barsottini and Nicolás Mazzola gave the home side the lead but on each occasion, Olimpo found a way level. Jacobo Mansilla and Marcelo Herrera ensured that Gimnasia’s search for a win was extended to seven matches.
In Sarandí, Arsenal were unable to make it three consecutive wins after being held by Atlético Rafaela. Matíás Zaldivia volleyed the home side in front but second half substitute, Guillermo Marino swivelled to hook the ball past Esteban Andrade just five minutes after coming on.
