Vélez’s season simply needs to end after Sunday brought yet another defeat and this time it was at home to a Nueva Chicago side that look destined to be relegated in spite of the win. Emiliano Amor had bundled the home side into an early lead but Miguel Ángel Russo’s young side were incapable of controlling the game and instead gifted the visitors an equaliser. Leandro Somoza’s wayward backpass presented Mauricio Carrasco with a glorious chance and he made no mistake in tucking the ball past Alan Aguerre. Twenty seconds into the second half and it got worse for Vélez when Alejandro Gagliardi tapped Chicago in front and even after Matías Vera was sent off, El Fortín were unable to find a way back. One win in thirteen matches for Vélez show just how poor they have been and the frustrated supporters can only hope for a radical improvement in 2016.
The Clásico santafesino was anything but a classic and after 90 minutes there was only one shot on target. Colón managed that after Unión were reduced to ten men but in truth there was nothing to report.
In Mendoza, Godoy Cruz celebrated life after Gabriel Heinze with a convincing 3-0 win over Temperley. Daniel Oldrá oversaw Sunday’s match and didn’t have to wait too long for his first goal as manager after Fabricio Angileri’s curling shot managed to sneak past Federico Crivelli. Leandro Fernández drilled in a second before the break when again Crivelli may have done better and moments after half-time, Juan Garro wrapped up victory by tapping in the third.
