The chances of Huracán being relegated back to the Nacional B were slim but on Friday night in Parque Patricios, Eduardo Domínguez’s side swept past Sarmiento to virtually ensure their status in the top flight. Dreadful defending from the visitors presented Patricio Toranzo with a chance that he could waste before half-time, and the midfielder slotted the ball past César Rigamonti with ease. The game remained in the balance but Ramón Ábila, as he has done on so many occasions, gave El Globo the initiative with a superbly taken lob and when Mauro Bogado added a third from the penalty spot, the points were sealed. Huracán could yet be dragged into a relegation playoff but that would now seem very unlikely and for at least another 12 months, El Globo will deservedly remain in the Primera.
A little later in Garupá, Crucero del Norte hosted Independiente and without breaking a sweat, Mauricio Pellegrino’s in-form side breezed to a 4-0 victory over their already relegated hosts. Crucero del Norte had previously stated that they would play this fixture to Chaco in order to optimise gate money at the expense of home advantage and on the evidence of Friday night that looks as though it would have been a good idea. The long grass of Misiones proved to be no advantage to the Primera minnows and Independiente were dominant. Diego Vera empatically smashed the ball past Germán Caffa to open the scoring and before half-time won the penalty that Diego Rodríguez tucked away to double the lead. The home side had Ariel Cólzera sent off for a challege on Jorge Ortíz but the match already looked over. Federico Mancuello, starting for the first time since May, set up a second for Vera and Juan Manuel Trejo fired in a fourth. El Rojo are finishing the season well and are almost ensured of a place in the Copa Libertadores playoff.
