Since Facundo Sava took over at Quilmes there has been no better team in the Primera but on Saturday evening, their run of twelve without defeat came to an end as Estudiantes ran out 4-1 winners in La Plata. Sebastián Romero tapped Los Cerveceros in front moments before the break but were behind within five minutes of the restart. Carlos Auzqui and Lucas Rodríguez scored a minute apart to put Gabi Milito’s side up and the same two players scored again before full-time to complete an easier than expected victory. La Pincha climb up into sixth and a potential Copa Libertadores playoff spot with just two rounds remaining.

Estudiantes’ rivals for one of these spots, Belgrano, needed an injury time goal to salvage a point from their trip to San Martín de San Juan. Gustavo Zabala had volleyed what looked like would be the winner midway through the second half but deep into injury time, Cristian Lema headed Belgrano level to earn a point.

Saturday’s final match between Lanús and Vélez was the meeting of two pretty poor sides that have both endured difficult seasons. More than 90 minutes of uninspired, drab football was seconds away from a goalless draw before Yamil Asad ran clear and poked Vélez a last gasp winner.

San Martín  1 – 1  Belgrano

Estudiantes  4 – 1  Quilmes

Lanús  0 – 1  Vélez Sarsfield
