Nueva Chicago’s good run of form appears to have come just a little too late and despite their latest victory in Junín against Sarmiento, it will take a small miracle for El Torito to remain in the top flight. Rubén Forestello’s side did their part on Friday night, chalking up a fourth straight win, after Nicolás Gimenez spectacularly gave them the lead with a thumping long range volley and Fernando De La Fuente curled in a late second. Gervasio Nuñez pulled one back for Sarmiento from the spot but Chicago held on for all three points to keep their dream alive.

In Méndoza, Colón confirmed their status in the Primera for 2016 with a 3-1 victory against Godoy Cruz. Cristián Guanca’s headed brace put the visitors firmly in control and although Jaime Ayoví brought La Tomba to within one, Mauricio Sperdutti’s absolute thunderbolt from distance sealed the victory for El Sabalero. The three points ensured that Colón could not be caught by Chicago and they can rest easy ahead of the final weekend.

So Friday’s results mean that Nueva Chicago will join Crucero del Norte in the Nacional B, unless, Temperley and/or Huracán lose their two remaining matches and Chicago can make it five wins on the bounce when in-form Quilmes visit Mataderos.

Godoy Cruz  1 – 3  Colón

Sarmiento de Junín  1 – 2  Nueva Chicago
