Facundo Sava’s unbeaten streak as manager may have been ended last week by Estudiantes but Quilmes bounced back on Sunday afternoon with victory against Huracán and just as the club have been revitalised under Sava, centre-forward Claudio Bieler has been transformed into one of the Primera’s most lethal goal scorers. Bieler’s first against Huracán was a moment of pure magic and a worthy match winner and although Daniel Montenegro’s heavily deflected long range strike almost shared the points, Bieler added a second from the penalty spot. Sava could well end up at Racing at the end of the season but Bieler will not be without his admirers after a second half of the season plundering twelve of his fourteen league goals. The result leaves Huracán still nervously anticipating the final weekend; a win for Nueva Chicago against Quilmes and another defeat for El Globo would force a relegation playoff.
Finally, in Mar del Plata, Aldosivi confirmed their place in the mammoth Copa Sudamericana playoffs with a narrow 1-0 victory over Independiente. Tigre’s earlier loss to Boca had already guaranteed El Rojo a spot in the Libertadores liguilla and with Mauricio Pellegrino heavily rotating the side, after Thursday night’s clash in Bogotá, El Tiburón took advantage. Former Racing striker, Jose Sand headed the only goal of the game and although the visitors pressed for an equaliser they slumped to a first league defeat since Pellegrino took charge.
