Santamarina may well have ended the Nacional B regular season sixteen points behind promotion rivals Patronato but it mattered very little on Sunday afternoon as Los Aurinegros took a 3-1 lead into the playoff final second leg.

Headed goals at either end, first from Santamarina defender Alfredo Bordón and later Matías Quiroga had left the first leg finely balanced. However, with 20 minutes remaining, Martín Michel poked the home side back in front and while a slender advantage would have been welcome ahead of next weekend’s second leg, Roberto Tucker extended the lead in the 84th minute.

Patronato have a great deal of work to do but back in Paraná will feel that they can score twice against a defence that conceded almost double the amount of goals they did in the regular season.

Santamarina  3 – 1  Patronato
