Nelson Vivas makes a good start as Estudiantes defeat Racing in Torneo Verano debut (VIDEO)

It’s a summer friendly match so let’s not get read too much into a match missing several of it’s key players and two teams under new management, still implementing ideas and moulding their sides for the start of the league season. That aside, Nelson Vivas will certainly be the happier of the two coaches after his Estudiantes side ran out 4-2 winners against Facundo Sava’s Racing.

Israel Damonte nodded El Pincha ahead after only three minutes but Racing’s second string side responded well. Facundo Pereyra tapped in from close range to equalise and on the stroke of half-time, Óscar Romero put Sava’s side in front from the penalty spot.

Gastón Fernández levelled the match after the break before Racing’s Yonathan Cabral produced a spectacular own-goal and gift the lead to Estudiantes. A fairly innocuous ball across the box from Augusto Solari was swung at wildly by Cabral and the ball flew past Nelson Ibáñez and into the net. David Barbona wrapped up the victory on the break with just minutes remaining to end a satisfying night for Vivas and his squad. The departure of Gastón Gil Romero to Rosario Central was something of a surprise but academy product  Santiago Ascacibar gave a very assured performance in midfield and could be one to look our for.

Estudiantes  4 – 2  Racing Club
