After opening day defeat in Parque Patricios to Atlético Nacional, Huracán were in need of a win to kickstart their Copa Libertadores campaign. A trip to the iconic Estadio Centenario in Montevideo to face Peñarol wasn’t the simplest of tasks but courtesy of a thundering golazo from 21-year-old Alejandro Romero Gamarra, El Globo got back on track with an important three points.
Injuries have somewhat curtailed the progression of young midfielder Alejandro Romero Gamarra and so it is easy to forget that in 2013 the AFA named his as the most promising young player in Argentina. It took just seven minutes for the academy product to remind those watching of his talents when he intercepted a pass in front of the Uruguayan back four and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner.
It perhaps could have been more comfortable for El Globo with José San Román and Ramón Ábila before hitting the crossbar but importantly Eduardo Domínguez’s side claimed all the points. Results elsewhere mean that they are now in second, behind Atlético Nacional, who have won both matches. A win next week away to Sporting Cristal could put Huracán close to the knockout stages already.
