Gerardo Martino has named his latest Argentina squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia and aside from the absence of Boca Juniors duo, Carlos Tevez and Fernando Gago, there are a number of surprises among the 29 players called. Veteran Rosario Central defender Javier Pinola returns to the squad for the first time since 2007 under Alfio Basile and is joined by River Plate full backs, Gabriel Mercado and Leonel Vangioni. There are deserved recalls for Gerónimo Rulli, Augusto Fernández and Enzo Pérez while Ezequiel Lavezzi retains his place despite making a January switch to the Chinese Super League.
With qualification off to a slow start but almost back on track after victory in Colombia, Argentina travel to Santiago for a repeat of the Copa América final on March 24th before facing Bolivia in Córdoba on the 29th.
