In 1938 Peñarol were the visitors to River Plate’s newly constructed Estadio Monumental and on Monday evening, Marcelo Gallardo’s side repaid the favour at the inaugaration of the Estadio Campeón del Siglo in Montevideo. River’s patchy form continued even in this friendly and thanks to goals by Diego Forlán, Miguel Murillo, Luis Aguiar and Cristian Palacios, the hosts celebrated a first victory in their new home.
