Estudiantes managed to keep on the heels of league leaders Lanús thanks to a retaken penalty deep into injury time by Jonathan Schunke in La Plata on Monday night.

Rodrigo Aliendro had given Atlético Tucumán an early lead when he skipped around goalkeeper Mariano Andujar with six minutes on the clock but El Pincha responded superbly. Two fabulous right-footed strikes from Gastón Fernández reversed the scoreline and ensured the home side led at the break despite having Carlos Auzqui sent off in the 38th minute.

With the numerical advantage, El Decano piled on the pressure in the second half and forced an equaliser with minutes remaining when Cristian Menéndez bundled in a second. The visitors looked the more likely winners but deep into stoppage time, Nicolás Talpone was bundled over by goalkeeper Cristian Lucchetti and presented a glorious opportunity to snatch all three points. Lucchetti thought he had redeemed himself when he dived to his left to palm away Schunke’s initial penalty but when the referee deemed that the goalkeeper had strayed from his line, he ordered the retake. Schunke made no mistake with the second and Estudiantes claimed the win to move to second in the table and remain three behind Lanús.

Arsenal made it four wins in five to move into second in Zone One and within a point of Godoy Cruz after coming from behind to cruise past Quilmes. After a goalless first half a superbly taken Brian Mansilla goal put the hosts in front but it served only to wake up, Sergio Rondina’s surprise title challengers. Gabriel Sanabria headed Arsenal level a minute later before Franco Bellocq swiftly put them in charge with a low half-volley. Ramiro Carrera extended the lead with the pick of the goals as he dashed clear and rifled the ball in off the underside of the bar and Miguel Caneo made absolutely sure with a looping header.

A late Federico Anselmo earned Atlético Rafaela a point after Víctor Malcorra looked to have given Unión a valuable away win midway through the second half. The equaliser still leaves La Crema with just one league win all season but keeps them a point above Argentinos Juniors at the bottom of the Zone Two table.

Quilmes  1 – 4  Arsenal de Sarandí

Atlético Rafaela  1 – 1  Unión

Estudiantes  3 – 2  Atlético Tucumán
