Rosario Central booked their place in the Copa Libertadores last 16 with a deserved 2-0 win over Nacional in Montevideo. The hosts had already confirmed their spot but with top spot and seeding up for grabs there was still enough to motivate both sides. Alejandro Donatti headed Eduardo Coudet’s side in front on the stroke of half time and Germán Herrera made certain of the result by adding a second with 20 minutes remaining.
Central essentially needed to avoid defeat to ensure their safe passage, particularly with Palmeiras winning so comfortably against River Plate, but even with Eduardo Coudet resting key players, El Canalla achieved that with relative ease. The results mean that Central finish top with eleven points and Nacional join them after finishing a point ahead of Palmeiras.
