Godoy Cruz remain top of Zone One after a 2-2 draw with Gimnasia in El Bosque on Friday night. Although the point could see El Tomba knocked off the summit by the end of the weekend, after being two-down to Gustavo Alfaro’s revitalised side it could be viewed as a point gained. El Lobo were beaten convincingly by Belgrano last time out but started strongly against Godoy Cruz. Lucas Licht put them ahead from the penalty spot after 15 minutes and when Walter Bou crashed in a volley ten minutes later, the home side were cruising.
Crucially for the visitors Fernando Zuqui pulled a goal back just before half time after his initial effort was parried by Enríque Bologna and with the momentum now shifted it took only seven minutes of the second half for El Tomba to be level. Jaime Ayoví rose to powerfully head in Luciano Abecasis’ cross from the right.
Neither side could find a winner but Alfaro will be pleased with the response from his side and Godoy Cruz are certainly still in the mix for the title.
Earlier in Junín, Caruso Lombardi celebrated a first win as Sarmiento boss as his side had just enough to see off the challenge of Colón. Osvaldo Barsottini’s unfortunate own goal after just 11 minutes proved to be decisive as even with a man advantage for much of the game, the home side were unable to extend their lead.
