Gerardo Martino has named the enormous 57-man shortlist for this summer’s Olympic squad and must now whittle this number down to the eventual 18 with an additional four reserve names.
Despite the Olympics being premarily for under-23 players, each squad is permitted three over age players and Martino has listed Ramiro Funes Mori, Gerónimo Rulli, Mateo Mussacchio, Javier Pinola, Jonathan Maidana, Nahuel Guzmán and Víctor Cuesta as possibilities to fill these positions.
Matías Kranevitter, Ángel Correa and Paulo Dybala are three under-23 players who may well go with the senior squad to the Copa América earlier in the summer but who are named as Olympic candidates also.
Other noticeable inclusions are Manuel Lanzini, Mauro Icardi, Luciano Vietto and Lucas Ocampos but competition for such a limited number of places in the squad is fierce.
