Gimnasia have won only one of the past nineteen Clásico Platenses and although El Lobo couldn’t improve that record on Saturday in El Bosque, they may have ended Estudiantes title hopes in Zone Two. The goalless draw does little to help either side and although it is more damaging to the visitors looking at the league table, El Pincha will perhaps be more thankful for the point after Gimnasia had the better of the chances.
There were no repeat scenes of the mass brawl during this summer’s friendly that led to numerous suspensions and what was a relatively peaceful clásico failed to really ever ignite.
Estudiantes remain dominate in the clásico in recent years but the draw probably means Lanús cannot be caught. Nelson Vivas’ side must now ensure that they guarantee their qualification for next year’s Copa Libertadores.
