The Copa Argentina has made an early start in Argentine football and although the start of the league season is still some weeks away several clubs have been in action.
Transición champions Lanús were given an almighty scare by Federal B side San Martín de Formosa before ultimately prevailing on penalties after Diego Velázquez’s injury time header cancelled out Víctor Ayala’s free kick. The Paraguayan was bidding El Granate farewell after sealing a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr and thankfully the midfielder was able to leave with Jorge Almirón’s side safely in the last 32.
Lanús 1 – 1 San Martín de Formosa (6-5 on penalties)
Godoy Cruz had no such trouble as goals from Pablo Alvarado and Fabian Henriquez saw off Estudiantes de Buenos Aires and set up a clash with Banfield.

Huracán needed a second half penalty from Mauro Bogado to edge past Central Córdoba after Leandro Figueroa had cancelled out Alejandro Romero Gamarra’s superb opener.

Earlier in the week Estudiantes cruised past Atlas. Julián Marchioni got El Pincha off to a wonderful start with a superbly struck free kick before second half goals by Facundo Sánchez and Gabriel Graciani wrapped up a place in the next round.

Esteban Burgos’ scrappy late goal ensured Central avoided a cup upset at the hand of Villa Mitre and secured a last 32 tie against Atlético Rafaela.
