Franco Cervi has made an immediate impact for new club Benfica after a man of the match performance and a superb solo goal helped the Águias to the Portuguese Super Cup against Braga in Aveiro.
The diminuitive 22-year-old took just ten minutes to open his account after cutting in from the left wing and firing Benfica in front but the former Rosario Central forward was a constant threat to the Braga defence.
Second half goals from Jonas and Pizzi made it a far more comprehensive victory than perhaps the scoreline sugggested but aside from lifting the trophy, Benfica supporters will be excited by the contribution of Cervi.
The Portuguese giants completed the deal more than six months ago but allowed the youngster to remain at Rosario Central until this summer. However, at 22, coach Rui Vitória may have expected Cervi to take a little longer to adapt to his new surroundings.
Those who have watched Cervi over the past couple of years in Argentina will not have been surprised by his contribution after marvelling at this type of energetic and dynamic display from the left side of midfield.
