Despite sacking Facundo Sava barely a week before the start of the season, Racing had little difficulty in advancing to the Copa Argentina last 16 with a 2-1 win over Olimpo in Salta.
Agustín Orion made his debut in the Racing goal but it is in attack where La Academia look most dangerous and it took only five minutes for them to take the lead. Lisandro López was tripped and the veteran striker got up to convert the penalty with ease.
Shortly before half time, Racing doubled the lead with a well struck volley from new signing Emanuel Insúa and against an Olimpo side not known for their goal scoring abilities, the tie looked virtually over.
Deep in injury time, Olimpo did manage to bundle the ball beyond Orion but it was too late and Racing go on to face Gimnasia in the next round.
