When San Lorenzo are in the mood, there is currently no more attractive side in Argentine football and in the opening 22 minutes of Wednesday night’s Copa Argentina clash against Godoy Cruz the pace and movement that led to a two-goal lead was too much for El Tomba to compete with.
Fernando Belluschi’s form has understandably had some quarters asking why Edgardo Bauza hasn’t taken a closer look but in tandem with Sebastián Blanco and Nicolás Blandi, Los Cuervos are at times unstoppable.
Martín Cauteruccio gave San Lorenzo the lead in the 12th minute volleying in after a breathtaking passage of incisive on-touch passing that cut Godoy Cruz to ribbons and to prove that it wasn’t a one-off, Diego Aguirre’s side repeated the trick ten minutes later. Blanco this time flicking the ball past Rodrigo Rey after breaking from his own half to meet Marcos Angeleri’s low cross.
Angel González provided an instant reply for Godoy Cruz when he slipped the ball beneath Sebastián Torrico but San Lorenzo ensured victory after the break.
Man of the hour Belluschi expertly finished off a third from Blanco’s deep cross and all that was left was for El Tomba to implode with the sendings off of Diego Viera and Jaime Ayoví.
