There is obviously work still to do next Thursday in Chile but San Lorenzo’s 2-0 win over Palestino in the Nuevo Gasómetro has put Diego Aguirre’s impressive side on the brink of the Copa Sudamericana semi finals.

Straight off the back of his match winning hat-trick at the weekend it took Martín Cauteruccio just five minutes to give San Lorenzo the lead when he powerfully headed in Marcos Angeleri’s cross from six yards out and it wasn’t too long before Los Cuervos extended the lead.

Barely half an hour had gone when the home side once more sliced through the Chilean defence and this time full-back Mathias Corujo was on hand to roll the ball into the path of Nicolás Blandi for a simple tap-in.

El Ciclón were unable to put any further distance between themselves and their visitors but Aguirre’s talented side are playing some wonderful football and without conceding an away goal are now in pole position.

San Lorenzo  2 – 0  Palestino
