Patronato’s season is well and truly back on track after Rubén Forestello’s side chalked up a third consecutive victory with a 2-1 win over Banfield. Second half goals by Matías Quiroga and Fernando Telechea gave El Patrón the points in what was an otherwise evenly contested match.
Quiroga pounced on a moment of hesitant defending to stab the home side ahead moments after half time and all three points were sealed ten minutes from time when Telechea volleyed past Hilario Navarro.
Another of the surprise teams that came up in the ten-team expansion to the Primera and have punched above their weight since promotion has been Atlético Tucumán but despite two positive results in recent weeks, El Decano slumped to defeat in Bahía Blanca.
Olimpo had only won once prior to Friday evening but led on the half hour mark when Jacobo Mansilla beat Josué Ayala to the ball and poked the ball into the unguarded net. Despite having the better of things, the visitors were unable to draw level and in 78th minute Fernando Coniglio doubled the advantage.
Cristian Menéndez came off the bench to bundle in a scrappy consolation goal for Atlético but Olimpo took the invaluable points in their bid to avoid the drop.
