The highly anticipated playing return of Juan Sebastián Verón has been no secret but this week the Estudiantes president stepped up his preparation by joining Nelson Vivas’s squad on the training field and on Friday announced that he would be donning the red and white once again when the club take part in the Florida Cup in January.
The 41-year-old had vowed that if 65% of the boxes at the new stadium were bought, he would return for Estudiantes’ Copa Libertadores campaign in 2017. With the target met, Verón has kept to his word and is getting ready for a return to action two years after his retirement.
As club president, Verón is currently overseeing a period of relative success at the club with a place back in the continent’s biggest cup competition but with El Pincha also riding high in the league. However, after winning the presidential election in October 2014, most assumed that a return of La Brujita, the midfield maestro, had passed.
Estudiantes travel to the United States in January for their preseason before the restart of the Primera División and after training with the squad this week, Verón has confirmed that he will be in Florida.
