River Plate ended their Florida Cup campaign with defeat to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama in the third place playoff but Marcelo Gallardo will be far more concerned by the sight of Sebastián Driussi leaving the pitch in considerable pain.
The Primera’s leading scorer was forced off shortly after half time when he took a strong blow to his right foot. Gallardo will be hoping that it is little more than an impact injury which will not keep the 20-year-old out for long given his dazzling form in the second half of 2016.
With Driussi substituted River lost their main source of goals and Vasco da Gama snatched victory with fifteen minutes remaining thanks to Nene’s supurb free kick.
River return from the United States having already lost Denis Rodríguez to a serious knee injury and there is no time to rest as Aldosivi are up next in Mar del Plata on Wednesday.
