Life at Shanghai Shenhua has got off to a shaky start for Carlos Tevez as his official debut ended in defeat to Brisbane Roar and elimination from this year’s AFC Champions League.
Tevez scored his first goal in a friendly last week but was a peripheral figure on Wednesday as A-League side Brisbane progressed to the Champions League group stages.
Brandon Borrello impressively volleyed the visitors ahead after only two minutes and despite Gus Poyet’s side boasting Tevez, Obafemi Martins and Gio Moreno, they were unable to get back on level terms.
Tommy Oar doubled the lead for the Australians before half time and Shanghai limped out of the Champions League.
The full time whistle was met by boos from the home crowd while for Brisbane it was a famous win.
