It wasn’t easy but all eight Brazilian sides are through to the group stage of this year’s Copa Libertadores after victories for Atlético Paranaense and Botafogo in Paraguay on Wednesday night.
Former Argentina international Lucho González scored early for Atlético Paranaense and it proved enough to claim a 1-0 win on the night against Deportivo Capiatá and a 4-3 aggregate victory.
Lucho and his Brazilian colleagues will now face San Lorenzo in group four along with Flamengo and Universidad Católica.
Botafogo needed penalties to sneak past Olimpia in Asunción and will line up in group one with Estudiantes, reigning champions Atlético Nacional and Barcelona.
Atlético Tucumán are in action on Thursday evening and need to overturn a one-goal deficit against Junior to take their place in the group stage and take Argentina’s number of representatives to six.
