Éver Banega has found his place in Inter Milan’s starting eleven under threat in recent weeks with Stefano Pioli preferring Portuguese midfielder João Mário but the Argentinian served up a timely reminder of his ability in Sunday’s 5-1 win away to Cagliari.
The 28-year-old had already delivered a wonderful assist for Ivan Perisic to open the scoring before curling in a perfectly struck free kick to double the lead shortly before half time.

Cagliari pulled one back before the break but Perisic’s second was followed by a Mauro Icardi penalty to pull the Nerazzurri clear.
After his recent suspension, it was Icardi’s 17th Serie A goal of the season, two behind leading scorer Andrea Belotti, who scored a hat-trick for Torino.
