Sergio Agüero made it twelve goals in his last twelve matches but couldn’t prevent Manchester City losing to Arsenal after extra-time in the FA Cup semi final at Wembley.
Pep Guardiola’s side will certainly look back on key decisions that went against them but it will be a trophyless first season in England for the hugely successful coach.
After Agüero had dashed away from Nacho Monreal to clip the ball over Petr Cech just after the hour mark, few would have counted on Arsenal turning the tie around.
It was Agüero’s 166th goal for City to become the club’s joint-second all-time top scorer and after his effort against Chelsea in 2013, the striker became only the second Argentine after Marío Kempes and Ricky Villa to score twice at Wembley.
However, Monreal equalised to force the tie to extra time and with Agüero forced off through injury, making him a doubt for the midweek derby against United, Alexis Sánchez snatched the winner.
Ensuring a top four spot is all that is left for City now before Guardiola begins his summer shake-up.
