Rosario Central became the first team through to the last 32 of the 2017 Copa Argentina with a 1-0 win over Primera C side Cañuelas in Santa Fe.
El Canalla have been runners-up on three consecutive occasions and so Paolo Montero’s side will be aiming to go one better but were given a difficult evening by lower league opposition on Tuesday.
Mauricio Martínez’s fierce long range effort after eleven minutes proved to be the difference but a decent penalty claim waved away and a clumsy challenge by Teo Gutiérrez that only earned the striker a yellow could have left Cañuelas feeling a little hard done by.
Regardless, Central progress and in the next round, El Canalla will face either Tigre or Deportivo Riestra.
