Tigre had lost seven of their last eight matches ahead of Friday evening’s visit to Córdoba but Facundo Sava’s side seemed to catch Talleres cold and thanks to two early goals left the Estadio Marío Kempes with a much-needed three points.

Sava admitted that his side lacked confidence following last weekend’s defeat to Banfield but it took only 23 seconds for El Matador to take the lead against Talleres after the ball broke to Agustín Cardozo on the edge of the box and his low shot beat Guido Herrera.

Ten minutes later and Emiliano Ellacopulos tapped in a second from close range after good work by Sebastián Rincón down the right and although Sebastián Palacios reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, a sub-par Talleres were unable to pull level.

Earlier on Friday, Quilmes’ survival hopes were dealt a blow when San Martín snatched all the points with a 94th minute Joaquín Molina header.

El Cervecero remain just outside the relegation zone for now but Olimpo and Arsenal face each other on Sunday but a win for either side would change that.

San Martín  1 – 0  Quilmes

Talleres  1 – 2  Tigre
