Despite losing seven of their last nine Primera matches, Tigre were expected to make relatively light work of Primera B Metropolitana side Deportivo Riestra on Tuesday evening. However, after a 2-2 draw it was the lower league club that prevailed on penalties, adding to El Matador’s current woes.

Diego Morales had put Tigre on course with an early penalty but two goals either side of half time, the first a Nahuel Benítez spotkick and the second, a Mauro Ortiz diving header put Riestra on top and dreaming of an upset.

Carlos Luna equalised with 25 minutes still remaining but Tigre were unable to find a winner.

Morales, having scored once from the spot already, was the only Tigre player to find the net in the shootout and so it was left to Leandro Collavini to send Riestra into the last 32, to face Rosario Central.
