Arsenal have picked up a couple of impressive results in recent weeks to suggest they might still have enough to remain in the Primera but on Tuesday afternoon, Humberto Grondona’s side were humbled by the superheros of Sacachispas.
The fourth-tier club are going well in the Primera C and ensured that they made headlines with the bizarre team photo but against top flight opposition, their Copa Argentina journey was supposed to end there.
Franco Fragapane put Arsenal ahead early in the second half from the penalty spot but despite being down to ten men, Sacachispas Julio César Serrano got back on level terms with a spot kick of their own.
Fittingly after the manner of the two goals, the tie needed to be decided on the spot and eventually Lucas Fernández found the top corner to win it 6-5 for the lower league side.
A little later in Rafaela, Talleres edged past Defensores de Belgrano thanks to a somewhat harsh penalty shortly before half time. Defender Luciano Goux was adjudged to have blocked a shot with his arm and while the Primera B side remonstrated with referee Pablo Díaz, Gonzalo Klusener tucked the ball past Albano Anconetani.
Talleres will face Gimnasia de Mendoza in the last 32 while Sacachispas go on to meet either Sarmiento or Club Atlético Brown.
