Promotion back to the Primera División was secured on Saturday but Argentinos Juniors wrapped up the title on Wednesday afternoon with victory over Nueva Chicago in Mataderos.

It has appeared something of a foregone conclusion for weeks but mathematically Los Bichos weren’t champions until another three points today gave Gabriel Heinze’s side an unassailable lead over Guillermo Brown and Chacarita Juniors.

Braian Romero scored early in both halves to take his season tally to fifteen and put Argentinos Juniors firmly in control and although Paul Charpentier tapped in a late consolation for the home side, the celebrations had already begun.

There has been little doubt over who has been the best side in the second tier this season and now Argentinos Juniors as champions can begin planning for life back in the top flight. After a testing start to his managerial career, Gabriel Heinze has proved a great success in La Paternal and should enjoy this deserved moment with his players.
