River Plate’s preseason has taken them to the United States and in their first friendly in Florida, Marcelo Gallardo’s side defeated Orlando City 3-1 thanks to goals from Ignacio Scocco, Alexander Barboza and Lucas Alario.
The eleven that started had the look of a River second string eleven but despite falling behind early came back to lead after Scocco and Barboza forced the ball home from set-pieces.
Initial XI: Augusto Batalla; Gonzalo Montiel, Alexander Barboza, Luciano Lollo, Camilo Mayada; Exequiel Palacios, Iván Rossi, Denis Rodríguez, Tomás Andrade; Carlos Auzqui, Ignacio Scocco
After the break, Gallardo fielded an entirely different eleven and it gave some indication of how River may line-up after the new additions of German Lux, Javier Pinola and Enzo Pérez.
Lucas Alario tapped in the only goal in this half in what proved to be a useful workout for River ahead of their Copa Libertadores second leg against Guraraní on August 8th.
