Superliga club Belgrano were one penalty away from a shock Copa Argentina exit against Torneo Federal A club Defensores de Belgrano de Villa Ramallo in Neuquén but eventually progressed to the last 16.

Jonathan Ramis poked Belgrano into a second minute lead and it looked as though it would be enough but a Ángel Prudencio penalty five minutes from time forced the tie to a shootout.

After Jorge Ortíz saw Belgrano’s first saved by goalkeeper Brian Olivera, Defensores successfully tucked away four and needed just their fifth for the upset. However, Lucas Acosta kept it out and went on to save another in sudden death to allow Marcelo Benítez to slot in the decisive spotkick.

With so many upsets in that half of the draw, Belgrano were close to another but will instead face either Atlanta or Sport Club Pacífico in the last 16.

Belgrano  1 – 1  Defensores de Belgrano de Villa Ramallo
6-5 on penalties
