Rosario Central were the first to book their spot in the Copa Argentina quarter final with Wednesday’s evening’s victory over Boca Juniors and on Thursday El Canalla discovered their opponents after Godoy Cruz saw off Banfield in Córdoba.

Sluggish defending from a set-piece by Julio Falcioni’s side allowed Victorio Ramis to volley past Facundo Altamirano midway through the first half but the in-form Darío Cvitanich ensured that Banfield went into half time level with a smart header.

The game was settled just after the hour mark when Godoy Cruz’s impressive Gastón Giménez flicked the ball into the net in the most nonchalant manner.

Banfield were certainly not at the level that produced the weekend’s 4-0 win away to Rosario Central and so El Taladro miss out on the opportunity of meeting again in the quarter finals. Instead, Godoy Cruz face Central as the Copa Argentina reaches the business end of the competition.
