The Superliga returned to action this weekend and despite a disappointing summer break it was business as usual for Boca Juniors. The league leaders overcame Colón to claim a 2-0 win in La Bombonera and establish a six-point lead at the top.
That was after San Lorenzo were reduced to nine men in Córdoba and suffered defeat to Talleres while the other three grandes endured similarly miserable openers. River Plate, despite handing record signing Lucas Pratto his debut 20 minutes from time, slumped to defeat away to Huracán after a bomb threat delayed kick-off, Racing Club became the latest victims to Leonardo Madelón’s impressive Unión and Independiente slipped up at home to Estudiantes.
Gabriel Heinze made a winning start as Vélez manager and it proved to be even more valuable with all six sides directly beneath in the descenso table failing to win. Patronato took a point from a Lanús side already a shadow of the team that went to the Copa Libertadores final while Tigre, Olimpo, Temperley, Arsenal and Chacarita Juniors all suffered defeats.
