With San Lorenzo not playing this weekend due to their match against Independiente postponed due to El Rojo’s involvement in the Recopa this week, Boca took the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the league to seven points.
The champions were made to work harder than expected by Temperley in La Bombonera but Frank Fabra’s overhit cross was enough to earn the points and mean that Carlos Tevez’s saved penalty went unpunished.
Rivals River Plate’s woes continued with a seventh defeat in nine. Marcelo Gallardo’s side may have had record signing Lucas Pratto on from the start but their sluggish display was exposed by a Lanús side, who hadn’t won since October.
Talleres’ fine form continued with a narrow victory over Banfield to climb into second and Godoy Cruz maintained their impressive 100% home record with a 2-1 win against in-form Belgrano.
Elsewhere, there were exciting wins for Defensa y Justicia and Rosario Central over relegation candidates Chacarita Juniors and Huracán and Vélez were dragged closer to trouble after defeat to rivals Patronato.
