Benfica’s damaging defeat to rivals Porto in last weekend’s O Clássico may well have seen the title slip through their fingers but Eduardo Salvio ensured that the Eagles lost no further ground with an injury time winner against Estoril on Saturday.
Rafa Silva had put Benfica ahead but Rafik Halliche’s 63rd minute equaliser appeared to have dashed any hopes of overhauling Porto.
However, two minutes into stoppage time, second half substitute Eduardo Salvio glanced a header inside the far post to snatch all the points. Salvio looks set for a place in Jorge Sampaoli’s World Cup squad and with this victory Benfica go back top until at least Monday, when Porto host Setubal.
Marseille’s fine season in Ligue 1 continued with a 5-1 thrashing against Lille and Lucas Ocampos maintained his impressive form with a goal and an assist.
Florian Thauvin and Kostas Mitroglou had both scored braces during a rampant first half and although relegation-threatened Lille pulled a goal back, Ocampos emphatically finished off a swift counter.
Still only 23, it was Ocampos’ ninth goal of the season and Marseille are now only a point behind Monaco in that important second spot.

There was less good news in Italy as Lucas Biglia looks to have added to Jorge Sampaoli’s World Cup selection headache.
With the news that Sergio Agüero is set for five weeks out after knee surgery, Biglia was forced off in Milan’s 1-0 defeat to Benevento and now also faces a rush to be fit for Russia.
A small fracture in the lower back has been reported and so the midfielder may also be out of action until just before the World Cup opener against Iceland.
